Identify Carpenter Bee

Carpenter bees (genus Xylocopa) are large, robust insects measuring 12–25 mm in length, often mistaken for bumblebees due to their shiny, hairless abdomens and dense thoracic hair. Females are predominantly glossy black and possess powerful mandibles used to bore smooth, round tunnels into untreated or weathered wood for nesting. Males, which lack stingers, typically have a pale “face mask” and patrol territory in gentle hovering flights. Although solitary and non-aggressive, repeated tunneling can weaken siding, decks, eaves, and window frames, making early detection and exclusion important for protecting wooden structures.

How do I get rid of Carpenter Bee?

To eliminate carpenter bees, begin by locating and sealing their galleries: in late fall or early winter, after bees vacate, inject a bee-safe aerosol dust (e.g., carbaryl or deltamethrin dust) into each tunnel, then plug the entrance with steel wool or wood putty to prevent re-use. Repaint or varnish exposed wood every few years—bees prefer bare, weathered surfaces—so keeping siding, decks, and eaves well-finished makes them less attractive. For new infestations, install one-way “exit” traps over active holes so bees leave but can’t return, then treat and seal. Encourage natural predators—like woodpeckers—by mounting birdhouses nearby. Finally, consider replacing vulnerable wooden trim or fascia with PVC or metal flashing in high-infestation areas for a long-term barrier against tunneling.

Treatment Process

Carpenter Bee Control & Treatment

Carpenter bees may look harmless, but they can cause serious structural damage by boring into wood to nest. Unlike termites, they don’t eat wood, but their tunneling weakens decks, fences, eaves, and wooden structures over time.

Our Carpenter Bee Control Process:

Thorough Inspection
We identify carpenter bee activity, entry points, and damage to target the treatment effectively.

Targeted Treatment
We apply professional-grade dusts or insecticides into the bee tunnels and nesting areas to eliminate active infestations.

Sealing and Wood Repair
After treatment, we seal entry holes to prevent re-infestation and recommend repairing or replacing damaged wood.

Preventive Measures
We apply repellents and offer protective coatings to discourage future nesting.

Follow-Up Services
Optional monitoring and repeat visits ensure your property stays carpenter bee-free.
